STOP PRESS: Read Wofa's letter to WORLDwrite below

Wofa, representative and resident of the Old Fadama community in Accra, Ghana, ends Keeping Africa Small by showing us around this shanty town. He beseeches western NGOs to stop their behaviour modification programmes and instead provide real development that will transform their lives.

We asked what his message would be in terms of what people need. He replied:

"Everything!"

So in the spirit of solidarity and the belief that it is our peers who know best, simply donate here and the proceeds will go to Wofa and the Old Fadama community in Accra, Ghana without any strings attached.

ELDERS AND OPINION LEADERS

OLD FADAMA, ACCRA

GHANA

14TH JANUARY 2008

To WORLDwrite,

The elders, the chief and the people of old Fadama are hereby expressing their gratitude for remembering us. We hope you and the crew are all keeping well over there. Down here in Old Fadama we are also doing fine and have enjoyed the films you sent to us.

Ghanaians, the youth especially, have embraced WORLDwrite's films, because these films are the aspirations, ideas and visions of every well meaning Ghanaian and African. For example I'm a subsistence farmer... get me out of here! reveals the gap between the rural and the urban dwellers. While the rural dwellers are deprived of essential amenities, like good drinking water, portable houses, access to education, they also produce just enough to feed their families. They eat to survive, no inventions, no experiments, no research etc. This film has been part of our daily life and being shown to the people every day at the Old Fadama community centre.

WORLDwrite, the TV in the community centre at Old Fadama is small (14" TV). For this reason, I stand on behalf of community leaders asking you to send us a bigger screen. If it cannot be possible send us money to buy one in Ghana here.

Hope to hear from you.

Yours sincerely

Wofa
